Westwater Studios

My first incorporated business.

Like most young professionals, I thought that having a strong and distinct business name would lend credibility to my work and help me stand out from my colleagues, but it didn’t, really.

What it did do was teach me how to run a small business, and how to be mindful of how I spend my time, to trust my instincts, and to ask as many questions as I can.

“We create ads and websites, we’re not saving babies.”

This was a popular phrase around the water cooler meant to remind people that while the work we do is important, it’s not worth risking burnout and stress.

Relax. Breathe. Take Your Time.

“why ‘Westwater’?”

I wanted something meaningful to me, something unique without being too on-the-nose.

So, I chose something from my childhood - my grandparents’ old farmhouse in Manitoba.

We’d drive out West in the summertime, to their farmhouse, and spend a few weeks there. Our cousins lived out there, too. They had a quad, a huge workshop, a cozy house, and a small cabin on the lake - it was always the best time of the year.

Hence, Westwater.
